margarine, softened

granulated sugar

walnuts, toasted

red food paste coloring

blue food paste coloring
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside. In another mixing bowl, combine margarine, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract. Add to dry ingredients. Mix just until soft dough forms. Stir in walnuts. Divide dough into thirds. Place two portions of dough in a separate bowl. Stir red paste color in one third of dough and blue paste color in the other dough. Leave last dough white. Line a 4"x12" baking pan with waxed paper, extending paper over long sides; spray with cooking spray. Press blue dough into bottom of pan. Press white dough over blue dough. Press red dough over white dough. Cover and freeze overnight. Preheat oven to 375. Run a knife along ends of pan to loosen dough. Use ends of waxed paper to lift dough out of pan. Cut dough into 1/8" slices. Place cookies two inches apart onto unprepared baking sheets. Bake for 12 minutes, or until bottoms are lightly browned.
