-
2 cups
unbleached flour
-
1/2 tsp
baking powder
-
1/4 tsp
salt
-
3/4 cup
margarine, softened
-
3/4 cup
granulated sugar
-
1 whole
egg
-
1 tsp
pure vanilla extract
-
1/2 tsp
almond extract
-
1/2 tsp
green food coloring
-
1/4 cup
pistachios, chopped fine
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside. In another mixing bowl, combine margarine and sugar. Add egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Mix well. Add flour mixture. Mix until thoroughly combined. Divide dough in half. Stir food coloring into one half. Cover and chill both for 30 minutes, or until easy to handle. Preheat oven to 375. On a lightly floured surface, shape about one-half of a measuring tablespoon of plain dough into a six inch rope. Repeat with half tablespoon of green dough. Place ropes side by side and twist together about six times. Form twisted ropes into a circle, gently pinching where ends meet. Place on unprepared baking sheets. Repeat with remaining dough, leaving two inches between cookies. Place small amount of pistachios in one spot on each wreath. Bake for ten minutes or until lightly browned.
