Red, White, & Blue Tie-Dyed Cookies

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 whole egg
  • 2 tbsps fat-free milk
  • 2 tsps pure vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups unbleached flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • red food coloring
  • blue food coloring
Red, White, & Blue Tie-Dyed Cookies
In a mixing bowl, combine butter and sugar until creamy. Stir in egg, milk, vanilla extract, Mix well. Add flour, baking powder, and salt until combined. Divide dough into thirds. Shape each dough into a ball. Place one white dough in plastic wrap and set aside. Tint other dough red and the remaining dough blue using food coloring. Wrap dough each in plastic wrap. Chill for two hours or until easy to handle. Preheat oven to 400. Once chilled, divide each ball of dough in half and leave remaining half refrigerated Divide each ball into eight pieces and roll into small balls. On a floured surface, arrange the balls in random pattern with each ball touching another. Press the balls together to form a flat, single piece of dough. Roll out dough to 1/4" thickness, forming a marbled effect. Cut dough using a star-shaped cookie cutter. Place cookies one inch apart onto unprepared baking sheets. Bake for eight minutes, or until cookies are lightly browned around edges. Repeat with the second half of chilled dough.
